Epec releases a new variant of SC4X control unit
Epec SC4X is a compact, high-performance safety controller for demanding off-highway machines and commercial vehicles. Certified up to SIL 2 and PLd/Cat. 3, it supports both distributed and centralized machine control architectures.
The new SC4X variant provides greater system integration flexibility with three CAN interfaces, direct support for proportional valve control with current measurement, and more flexible use of HS/LS outputs across different system voltage configurations.
SC4X supports CODESYS 3.5 programming, Epec’s MultiTool software and PLC libraries for efficient application development, configuration, diagnostics and virtual testing.

New SL84 Control Unit firmware version available from September 4
Epec’s SL84 Control Unit will receive updated firmware with new features and improvements, together with updated software and documentation.
SL84 Control Units with product codes E30FSL84-020 and E30FSL84-022 will receive the updated firmware automatically in production from December 1, 2026. Other possible product codes will be updated separately when agreed with Epec Sales.
The new firmware is backwards compatible with existing customer applications, and no application changes are required to use the updated firmware. Customer-specific verification and validation requirements should be considered when commissioning the new firmware version.

Key changes:
66662 Bug fix Support for whole 16kb FRAM
Fixed bug, which prevented use of the whole 16kb FRAM area. With this fix it is possible to use the whole 16kb FRAM area or use back up with 7936 bytes parameter area.
74420 Feature Support for rising and falling time stamps
Added support for rising and falling time stamps. New firmware supports measuring rising and falling time stamps. Application gets timestamps in us. Only the latest time stamp is offered to the application. If in the application cycle more than one edge is measured, only the latest one is available to application. This change also demands new device description and MultiTool version. This feature is available only for ETPU type pulse inputs.
86625, 85242 Bug fix Pulse inputs (ETPU)
Improvements for ETPU type pulse inputs by fixing overflow handling downward where one pulse is lost when pulse input counts downward in 2CH mode. There are also improvements for noise and short pikes for ETPU type pulse inputs.
61805, 70185, 59209, 71879, 72469 Feature Changing mA/V mode doesn’t lead to safe state
With this new feature, firmware allows changing mA/V mode for AI pins without leading to safe state. This allows code template to protect mA inputs and recover from this situation.
45233 Feature Extra protection for safety switch
Firmware checks that all power supplies have voltage connected before allowing control of the outputs. This prevents possible damage in the load dump.
46804 Feature Improvements for FW log read
Added index 0x1F50sub12h to read last 25 errors from firmware.
66137 Firmware version in system parameter
Fixed issue with firmware version was shown wrong in system parameters read.
70325 Machine type selection feature
Added support to MTC machine type selection features.
62129 Product internal temperature measurement
Product internal temperature measurement changes.

Epec releases the latest MultiTool Creator 8.6.
- The new Epec SC4X Control Unit variant is now officially supported as a functional safety certified control unit.
- Support for the new Epec SL84 Control Unit firmware version is included in MultiTool Creator 8.6.
- MultiTool Creator 8.6 introduces a new licensing model, and a valid license is required to use the software.
