FIMA – Finnish Forum for Intelligent Machines – will celebrate its 10 years anniversary in 2016. FIMA is an industry-driven association focusing on research of intelligent systems in mobile machinery. FIMA members include leading machine manufacturers, system suppliers, technical universities and research institutes in Finland.
Once a year, the FIMA Research Seminar collects the members and research teams to summarize and share latest results and experiences of on-going projects.
This year, the seminar was organized in Kampusareena, at the Tampere University of Technology campus in Tampere. Interesting presentations included results from an electric work machine platform and a forecast of an electric driveline roadmap by Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Center of Finland.
Additionally, results of novel methods for boom orientation measurement along with a live machine demo were presented by researchers of Tampere University of Technology and VTT. Prof. Arto Visala from Aalto University presented an interesting overview about trends and applications in robotics based on the experiences during his time spent in Japan.
Demos and presentations shown in FIMA Gallery provided a possibility to continue discussions and networking between the research teams and industry. Moreover, some member companies including Epec presented the latest products and innovations.
Epec demonstrated the use of Epec GlobE, 6100 Remote Access Unit and 6000 series display products as a complete solution for Industrial Internet applications. Additionally, features and use-cases of Epec’s CODESYS-programmable product platforms were discussed together with other FIMA members.
